I am a daughter. I am a wife. I am a mother. I am a friend. I am a nurse. I am a healthcare administrator. I am a “thought leader.” I am a “Disnerd.” I am a “slogger.” I am a “planner.” I am a “liberal.” I am an advocate and an ally. I am a connoisseur of much, and an expert on nothing. I am a mosaic of a thousand pieces of life; experiences lived by myself, by those who came before me, and those around me, that have shaped me into this eclectic being that I am.
Over the last several years, on different occasions, in different settings, and from different people, I have heard “you should be a writer.” This summer, I had a dear friend send me an application to be a contributing writer for a rather well known social media site. When I opened it, my response was...”did you mean to send this to me?!”
Writing isn’t new to me. I earned both my bachelors and masters degrees through online education. Communicating my comprehension of the various subjects was restricted to my ability to effectively translate my thoughts and knowledge into academic essays. In my professional role, I utilize a weekly newsletter to engage staff and convey relevant organizational and regulatory process and protocol updates.
But, “a writer?” Me?! That is a descriptor I NEVER would have assigned to myself. 2020 has illuminated many things that we never expected. Funny how a similar suggestion from a variety of unconnected people can shine a light on a new possibility.
So, here we are. Me, stringing a series random thoughts together...some philosophical, some polarizing, some humorous, some that may be uncomfortable...in hopes that you might find something that resonates with you or gives you a peephole into a view you wouldn’t otherwise consider. Buckle up, this journey might get bumpy at times, and will likely veer off course here and there, but overall it should be an adventure!
As I begin to corral more of the beautiful chaos that dances around in my head and put it into words, I will explore more of my thoughts and opinions related to nature vs. nurture, “when you know better, you do better,” perspective, change, and a myriad of other relevant randomness! Welcome aboard!
